"Puerto Vallarta Lady"
My husband Joe and I went to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, May 2022 for a business convention. While we were there, I did some small paintings of the flowers at the hotel. There was a young lady who served us out on the patio of the buffet restaurant where we took our meals.
I spoke with her in Spanish, sharing what our group was there for. After one conversation out in the lobby, I headed towards the restaurant, when the thought came to me: "I should take her picture, she is so pretty, she would make a good subject to draw and paint.
So I went back and asked Arelis (her name), if I could take her picture. I explained that I am an artist and would like to draw her. She let me take her picture, then asked to see them. She wasn't satisfied so took my phone and took selfies, which she seemed to like better.
"Puerto Vallarta Lady", 16" x 12" on 70 # paper, is the final drawing for my online drawing lifelike portraits course. She came out pretty good. I had the perfect frame for this graphite artwork. It has been entered in the Hemet Valley Art Association gallery show, and won second place in the drawing/pastels category. In October, she will be entered in the Southern California fair in Perris.
